One of the big philosophical questions related to music I’ve been pondering for the last few years has to do with the issue of releasing music. It’s so darn easy to make any kind of track nowadays. It means an explosion of released music.
The closest example I could think of i Picasso. He painted a lot, all the time. Some of is art is plain amazing; but alas the majority of his work is not that exiting. That is what is happening if you paint a couple of paintings a week, year after year.
I know artists who go around this by having lots and lots of aliases, across multiple genres.
But for me the biggest hurdle is that I don’t want to release music I don’t personally like. It would be a no-brainer to dump out all the possible stuff I have on my hard disk. But I would not approve of the material myself, for example if I would listen to it as an individual person. Then again, someone else might like it.
So that’s my dilemma, let the flood gates open or not.
